Project Overview
Khloe Goldstein needed a seamless way to enroll students who purchased her online course on Shopify into Thinkific. The first step was ensuring that her Microsoft 365 email could send confirmation emails via Zapier. She had already attempted to set up the workflow but ran into an SMTP authentication error. I diagnosed and fixed the issue, allowing her to proceed with building out the full Thinkific automation.
Goals & Objectives
Build an automated workflow that auto enroll student to Thinkific and auto send email after each paid order.
Automatically enroll students who pay on Shopify into Thinkific.
Fix SMTP email errors and send emails using Microsoft 365 via Zapier.
Ensure the client’s business email could be used for professional communication.
Create a reliable automation flow without ongoing manual work.
Build Shopify → Thinkific student auto-enrollment workflow.

Discovery & Initial Request
Tools Used: Fiverr
Discussed her need for Shopify → Thinkific automation.
Identified email delivery as the main priority.

SMTP Authentication Fix
Tools Used: Godaddy, Microsft 365, Fiverr
Verified domain was hosted on GoDaddy, using Microsoft 365 (Exchange) for mail.
Resolved the Zapier SMTP error:
“535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful – user locked by your organization’s security defaults policy”
Accessed Microsoft Admin via GoDaddy.
Enabled “Authenticated SMTP” for the email address.
Adjusted Security Defaults to allow SMTP authentication temporarily.

Zapier Setup
Tools Used: Zapier
Set up Zapier SMTP action using the verified email.
Configured To, From, Subject, and Body for email delivery.
Successfully sent a test email for verification.

Delivery & Final Testing
Tools Used: Fiverr, Zapier
Walked the client through final tests.
Demonstrated sending a real email using the automation.
Client approved and accepted the project.

✅ Email system fully integrated with Zapier and functional.
✅ Microsoft 365 SMTP correctly sending emails from Zapier.
✅ Automation enabled for future Shopify–Thinkific enrollments.
